THE HOUSE OF THE EARLY SUPPORT IN VUOSAARI

The House of the Early Support in Vuosaari project is run by Pienperheyhdistys ry. (The Single Parents´Association) from 2006-2008. The project is funded by Finland's Slot Machine Association.

The project is targeted towards the families of 7-12 year old children living in the Vuosaari area in the city of Helsinki.

The project offers client centred services and peer group support for families. It also aims to create client centred network models for professionals and other partners working with families in the Vuosaari area.

Services are free, direct booking by phone, no covering letters needed.

Aims and objectives of the project are to

encourage the families to find support and solve their problems in early stage
prevent the problems from becoming chronic, and decrease the need for other interventions
offer quick and easily accessible psychotherapeutic support
enhance networking between families with children in the Vuosaari area
emphasise the special needs of 7-12 year old children
strengthen families' own advocacy
support responsible parenthood

The services are focused on

child rearing and growth problems of the family
solving family communication and pair relationship problems
supporting families in crisis situations
supporting the families to find the most helpful networks
locality; you find the services in your own area
client centred services
easy accessibility, and friendly and relaxed atmosphere

Services for the families are

counselling
client guidance
psychosocial discussion support
family therapy
peer group activities for children and parents

Peer group activities started during the autumn 2006; a peer group for 7-10 year old children griefing for a past family member, a peer group for 7-10 year old children whose parent has mental health problems.

Services for local professionals in social, health care and education field and other partners are

to offer working pairs in family centred work and group supervising

Resources

three (3) family therapists (psychotherapists)
cooperation with the other Pienperheyhdistys services; including, intensive family work of Alvari, the family work of Family Place Merikehto and the grand parent support of Mummila. The Family Work Alvari, Mummila and the House of the Early Support in Vuosaari share the same location.
